Information related to the move of STSS to this website

Studies of Transition States and Societies (STSS) is pleased to announce that the journal has transitioned to a new, modern publishing platform.

All previously published issues of STSS are all also available here, and several new Online First papers and book reviews have already been published. We warmly invite new submissions via this platform, and the upcoming June 2026 issue will also be released here.

The current platform offers a more user-friendly experience for authors, reviewers, and readers, along with improved technical capabilities for manuscript submission, peer review, and access to published articles.

Please Re-Register on the New Website

User accounts could not be migrated from the previous system. So in case you had a user account on the old website we kindly ask all community members to register anew in your preferred roles—reader, author, or reviewer.

Re-registration is essential to:

  • submit new manuscripts
  • participate in peer review
  • receive updates on newly published issues, articles, and calls for papers

Ongoing Submissions

The old website will remain accessible for a transitional period, and all ongoing review processes already started there will be completed on the old platform. Authors and reviewers currently involved in these submissions do not need to take any action.

The STSS editorial team thanks the Tallinn University Academic Library for their ongoing support in the transition process.

Studies of Transition States and Societies (STSS) is an open-access interdisciplinary journal for the study of transition societies with a specific focus on the intersection between the labour market and education studies from life-course perspective (see full scope here). STSS is fully open access, does not ask for article processing charges from authors, yet provides free language editing to accepted articles. Our goal is to contribute not only to scholarly debates but also promote good practices in open science, while staying independent, uncompromising and maintaining high academic standards and ethical conduct.
